Between the Lines

Between the Lines

About the "Between the Lines" blog

Our latest exhibition "Between the Lines" reflects our response to the commemoration of the 1914-18 conflict.

This blog will focus on stories behind the work by the E.A.S.T artists as well as looking at other artistic and cultural commemorations around the UK that relate to WWI.

WW1 at the Great War Show

Visiting the Sywell Great War Show at the weekend, I was pleased to meet a group of re-enactors of WW1 history. In particular I met Anne, a lovely lady who had created a display to illustrate a WW1 casualty clearing station. Everyone involved was very helpful in my research questions and we were able to share information about Lady Smith-Dorrien's Hospital Bag Fund, which has been a major inspiration for my own "Between the Lines" work. (More about this in a later blog.)

Sadly the weather was against us - too blustery for the Great War Display Team (and the two Lancasters could not attend, which had been a major reason for our visit), but for me it was the re-enactors who made the long journey to Northamptonshire very worthwhile.

It was particularly heartening to see families engaging with the exhibits - a really good way to learn about history.
