Yesterday (Saturday 26 October 2013), Braintree Museum celebrated twenty years in the old Manor Street School building. EAST were kindly invited to join in with the celebrations and had a really busy workshop. Visitors were invited to make tokens which were then put into a book to go into the museum archive. Plans are in hand for the finished piece to go on display at the museum.
We shared the Learning for Life Room with members of the Essex Lace Guild who demonstrated bobbin lace making - and who also kindly donated items for the EAST project. There was also a display about the Warner Textile Archive which also proved of interest to visitors.
We were very pleased to catch up on the day with some of O2 Textile members (past and present) as well as introducing visitors from as young as three to adults to the pleasures of textiles.
Pictures below include the EAST members (Melinda, June, Libby and Lorna) just before the crowds arrived, visitors (Pat and Eileen) getting involved, some of the tokens in the finished book and Mara from Essex Lace Guild demonstrating bobbin lace.
